Waking up to the sound of birds chirping and the song that the wind makes while it rustles the leaves above your tent is a magical experience. It is an experience that only the best waterproof tents can provide.

Finding a perfect waterproof tent is not an easy task. There are many factors that you need to consider before you can make a satisfying purchase.

An excellent waterproof tent should give you comfort, warmth during cold nights, proper ventilation during hot days, and it should keep you dry during heavy rains.

We have taken a lot of time to research a huge number of tents to provide you with our list of nine best waterproof tents on the market. You only need to make your pick, and you will be on your way to enjoying your next hike through a forest, or a weekend at a music festival.

In Short

If you and your partner require the best waterproof tent, then the Toogh Camping Tent is an excellent choice. Its 3,000 waterproof rating makes sure that you remain dry while inside. You won’t have any problems setting it up. It is lightweight, inexpensive, has a good ventilation system and looks awesome. Up to three people can use it, but our recommendation is to use it as a two-person tent.

On the other hand, if you need a waterproof tent created for large groups of people, then the Wenzel Klondike Tent is a good choice. It is a roomy tent that can house up to eight people, and it comes with an excellent ventilation system. It is extremely easy to pitch and has a high headroom, so even the tallest of people can stand upright. It has a great screened porch and it won’t empty your wallet.

Teton Sports Mountain Ultra is an excellent tent for backpacking.

It is very easy to pitch and offers plenty of protection from the elements. You can get it in four sizes, but we will focus on the four-person version. If you are looking for a waterproof model that won’t set you back a lot, you should consider Teton Sports Mountain Ultra.

Design and Features

Teton Sports Mountain Ultra won’t draw a lot of attention because it favors substance over style. That doesn’t mean that it is ugly. It boasts a simple design that is all about providing you with everything you need for a peaceful night of sleep in nature.

You won’t have a lot of problems lugging this tent around as it weighs 9.5 pounds. The best part is that you can consider it an automatic tent since it won’t take you a long time to pitch it. It comes with only three poles. They are made from lightweight aluminum that is created to outlive carbon-fiber variants. If you have ever pitched a tent, then you will be able to pitch this one without anyone’s help.

It is a freestanding tent that you can easily move around in a way you see fit. You’re not feeling comfortable during sleep? No worries, simply move the Mountain Ultra to a different position and resume your sleep.

If you’re fond of having a gorgeous view of the nature surrounding you, this tent will make you happy. It is made of durable micro-mesh fabric that provides great ventilation. Better yet, it keeps pesky insects away. So, you shouldn’t worry about mosquitoes ruining your camping trip. The micro-mesh fabric allows you to have a 360-degree view, so you can enjoy your surrounding while hiding away from the rain.

When you purchase this tent, you receive a durable Oxford footprint that protects the tent floor. You can walk inside without taking your footwear off, but we recommend you to let your feet breathe free. The extra high Oxford waterproof bathtub floor makes sure that you remain dry while inside this tent. There are even cut away vents that ensure no condensation builds up.

The four-person version of this tent comes with two doors, which is great for ventilation.

Things to Consider

One of the problems we have noticed is that the tub floor isn’t high enough. Yes, it is extra-high, but it isn’t enough to prevent splashes of water pouring inside.

The lack of windows is a problem when you place a rainfly over it. So, when you place a rainfly over the tent during a heavy downpour, airing might become problematic.

The footprint lacks buckles, so the tent could slide off the footprint, but we haven’t noticed any users complaining about it.

Summary

Teton Sports Mountain Ultra is a pretty good four-person tent. It isn’t very expensive, but it isn’t a budget model either. You won’t have any problems packing it tightly and carrying it around. The weight of 9.5 pounds isn’t the best since many tents weigh less, but it isn’t anything that will strain your muscles.

You will not have any problems setting up this tent, but try not to set it up during heavy rain, since it might get flooded before you are finished.

All in all, this seems to be the best waterproof tent for backpackers who need an easy-to-store model. It is built to withstand rain and condensation and to keep you dry. If you’re a backpacker going out for a hike during the weekend, you might want to give this one a go.

2. ALPS Mountaineering Lynx Tent 2 Person Review

  • Affordable
  • Stable

  • Extra features
  • Lightweight
  • Not waterproof without a rain cover
  • Problems with condensation
  • Can’t survive rough weather
check price

If you’re going for a mountaineering trip alone or with another person, the ALPS Lynx might be the best waterproof tent for you.

It is a lightweight tent that is durable enough to survive plenty of abuse. Even if you are a beginner, you will have no problems with it. It is easy to set up and move around, and, most importantly, it’s not very expensive.

Design and Features

The first thing you should know is that Lynx is comfortable. If you and your camping partner don’t like being close together during sleep, you don’t have to be. ALPS Lynx gives you more than enough space for comfortable sleep. You will even have enough room for your backpacks.

Pitching the Lynx isn’t problematic. You won’t spend a lot of time on pitching it since it uses a freestanding pole design. The poles are made of aluminum, which makes them lightweight. You only have to place them into correct positions and then attach the hooks onto them. Moreover, when you need to tear it down, you will do it without any hiccups.

Since this is an easy-to-setup and lightweight tent, you shouldn’t expect it to survive heavy storms. The ALPS Mountaineering Lynx can survive moderately strong winds, but not anything stronger.

Waterproof seams make Lynx great at keeping you dry. Better yet, the sealed polyester rainfly makes sure that you and your belongings stay dry during rain. The vestibules on the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx add an extra layer of protection by creating an entry with two doors.

When there is no rain, you have to deal with sunlight. Luckily, the Lynx is mostly made out of mesh material that provides awesome airing. If you are worried about the UV lights, you can use the UV-resistant rainfly to protect yourself during scorching heat. The small windows on the side walls are a neat touch that allows you to see outside without feeling confined.

We adore the addition of a small pocket close to the floor of the Lynx. You can store flashlights and electronics inside for easy access. You also receive clasps on the inside, which are used to attach a gear loft. It might seem like an insignificant detail, but a gear loft is an awesome way to organize small items.

One of the features that many other tents omit is the inclusion of large zippers. If you are camping during a cold night, you will appreciate the large zippers because you won’t have to take off your gloves while entering or exiting the tent.

ALPS Lynx weighs a bit under six pounds, which is not a lot. The weight shouldn’t drag you down a lot during your trip, and you can easily have your partner carry it if you get tired.

Things to Consider

The biggest problem with ALPS Mountaineering Lynx is that it requires the rain cover to be waterproof. Another problem is that it isn’t going to survive heavy storms. So, make sure to be aware of the weather in the area you are camping in.

Lastly, using the rainfly during the rain might cause some condensation to appear on the inside. So, bear this fact in mind before you purchase the ALPS Lynx.

Summary

If you need a free-standing two-pole tent for two persons, then you should consider the Alps Mountaineering Lynx. It is a lightweight model that is easy to carry and assemble.

The factory-sealed fly and floor make it one of the best waterproof tents we have had to review. Two doors make sure that you get proper ventilation, and the storage pocket keeps your electronics safe and nearby. Mesh walls increase airing further.

You might have some problems with condensation forming when you use the rainfly, but it’s not a huge problem. All in all, the Alps Mountaineering Lynx 2-Person is a great choice if you don’t want to spend a lot of money. You and your camping partner will have enough room inside, and you won’t feel uncomfortable if you don’t like sleeping close together.

3. CORE 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent Review

https://solidguides.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/CORE-10-Person-Straight-Wall-Cabin-Tent-175x175.jpg
  • Easy to assemble and take down
  • Room divider
  • Lantern hook and electric cable port
  • Best for summer
  • Well-ventilated
  • Small rainfly
  • Unclear waterproof rating
  • Vertical walls are a wind hazard
check price

If you are looking for the best water-resistant tent for large groups of people, then this one might be what you need.

CORE 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin is very tall and has straight walls. It is a roomy tent that is very livable and comes with large windows. It is important to note that it’s a freestanding model, so you should consider using stakes to attach it to the ground. Being 14 by 10 feet in size, this tent is large to accommodate even camping chairs during rain.

Design and Features

We have to say that we are impressed by the CORE 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin. Obviously, it is a straight wall tent, but it slopes a bit towards the end. The center of it is over seven feet high, which allows tall people to walk around freely without having to bend. The large windows make it feel like you are inside a house, which is greatly appreciated.

We love the fact that this tent has a divider in the middle. If two families use it, both of them can use the divider for privacy. Both of the rooms are big enough to host queen-sized beds. You can also use bunk cots if you want to have more room inside.

CORE claims that 10 people can fit inside, which is true. But, an asterisk is needed to explain that each person gets around 14 square feet, which is not great. It is good if ten people intend only to sleep in it, but not much else. Truthfully, Core 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin is better suited for groups of four or five people.

CORE 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin is best suited for summer, but it could be used during early autumn or late spring. It has lots of mesh openings, which is perfect if you enjoy well-ventilated tents. Don’t try using it during heavy winds, since its design makes it easy to topple over. This is an issue with all cabin style tents, so it is something that should be expected.

The CORE 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin comes with six vertical steel poles and three fiberglass roof poles. Bear in mind that fiberglass is not the most durable material out there. The floor is made of durable polyethylene, and it is fully waterproof. You should be aware that the floor isn’t in bathtub style, so keep that in mind when deciding where to pitch it.

The walls are made from durable polyester made in so-called H2O Block Technology. The wall fabric is treated with a polyurethane coating that makes the water roll off the fabric instead of penetrating it. CORE claims that the H2O Block Technology has a 600mm hydrostatic rating. So, you should expect the fabric to withstand up to 600mm of resting water in an isolated spot without any leakage.

We like the fact that even the ceiling is made out of mesh, which further boosts this tent’s ventilation properties. The ceiling hosts a hanging ring that comes useful during the night. Simply attach a lantern to the hanging ring, and you won’t have to endure the darkness while you are inside.

CORE 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent comes with an electric cable port on the wall, which is an awesome feature. You also receive 18 steel stakes that will keep it in place.

Things to Consider

Unfortunately, not everything is perfect in this massive tent. We don’t understand why there aren’t more wall pockets. You only receive two sets of small pockets, which is a shame.

Another problem is that CORE isn’t clear on the level of waterproofing. It claims that the tent is water-resistant, but we don’t have a clear waterproof rating.

The vertical walls are a wind hazard, so make sure that you don’t pitch this tent in an area with heavy winds. We don’t like the lack of storage space, and the fiberglass roof poles could have been better.

The rainfly is tiny, and it only protects the ceiling, but many users claim that they haven’t noticed any problems during the rain.

Summary

If you’re going to a festival with a large group of friends, up to 10 of you can sleep in this CORE model. Unfortunately, don’t expect to do much besides sleeping. On the other hand, this tent is an awesome choice for groups of four to five people.

It has plenty of room and allows even the tallest of people to stand. The inclusion of a room divider and an electric cable port is much-appreciated. CORE 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin is extremely well ventilated and durable. If you don’t use it in extremely windy areas, you won’t have any problems.

All in all, there are a couple of minor snags that you can choose to ignore, but be aware that the waterproof rating is unclear. If you don’t mind that fact, then you are most likely to have a blast spending time inside this tent with your friends and family.

4. Eureka Copper Canyon 4 Person Tent Review

  • Exceptionally tall
  • Impressive ventilation

  • Users report zipper problems

Eureka is a well-known name among camping enthusiasts. It is a company with a history of over 100 years, so if anyone knows tents, it’s Eureka.

Copper Canyon 4 Person Tent is a freestanding cabin style tent designed to fit four people. It is a tent with near-vertical walls and a bathtub-style floor.

If you are looking for the best waterproof tent that is easy to assemble, you should consider the Eureka Copper Canyon.

Design and Features

The first thing you will notice is that the tent has a rustic charm to it. Not everyone will like the colors, but we have fallen in love with them.

Eureka Copper Canyon is easy to assemble, taking only a couple of minutes of your time. The pole sleeves, rings, clips, and pins make the tent sturdier because they spread out the stress across the pole. The mentioned pieces also add up to the ease of assembly.

Since this is a freestanding model, you won’t have to look for a perfect place on the ground where you can pitch it. You can assemble it on grass, sand, concrete, and more. Despite being a freestanding model, it comes with stakes that help keep it in place if necessary. Bear in mind that you shouldn’t use Eureka Copper Canyon during heavy winds.

We adore the maximum height of seven feet. Even the tallest of people can feel comfortable in this tent. Eureka Copper Canyon comes with three windows, plus an extra window on the door. Ventilation should not be a problem in Eureka Copper Canyon thanks to amazing airflow. You will notice that the mesh ceiling is covered with a rainfly, as well as all of the other openings. Basically, the openings have mesh on the outside and waterproof panels on the inside. Of course, you will have to cover the openings during the rain, which will make the tent less pleasant to be in.

The floor area is 64 square feet, which is good enough for four people to sleep with extra room in the feet area. If you want to save space, you can use bunk cots.

Eureka Copper Canyon weighs a bit over 19 pounds, which shouldn’t give you a lot of problems if you have a vehicle. The packed size of Eureka Copper Canyon astounds us; it’s only 26 x 7 inches! If you are on a bicycle trip with your friends, then you can easily carry it with you. When it comes to the poles, the vertical ones are steel and very thick. Unfortunately, the roof ones are made of fiberglass, so make sure to be careful with them.

The polyurethane (PU) coating makes this tent exceptionally waterproof. The rating of PU coating is the same on the rainfly, floor, and walls: 1,200mm. Consider that an umbrella has a PU coating rating of 500mm, and you will see why Eureka Copper Canyon is very good when it comes to waterproofing.

It is nice to notice plenty of pockets on the walls, which adds to the available storage space. You can also attach a gear loft to the ceiling and store small items on it. The inclusion of an electricity port is a thoughtful addition which many will appreciate. We love seeing the guy out pockets that are awesome at helping you store the guylines when you don’t use them.

Things to Consider

The first minor problem you will notice is that this tent doesn’t have two doors. It’s not a huge problem, but it is a noticeable one. The second minor problem is related to the weight; some people will find 19 pounds hard to carry around.

The lack of vestibules is a bigger problem because you won’t be able to stash your gear in a separate place.

Eureka Copper Canyon 4 Person would’ve been an amazing tent if it came with sectioning options. Unfortunately, it has only one large interior space.

Finally, some users have complained about the quality of zippers. It seems that it is easy to damage the zippers, so make sure to be careful when using them.

Summary

Eureka Copper Canyon 4 Person Tent is one of the best waterproof tents we’ve seen. It is very tall and comes with plenty of windows. The ventilation that this model offers is impressive, to say the least.

If you need a tent that is easy to set up, then this one is an excellent choice. It is small when packed, which makes it great for cycling trips.

Four fully-grown adults might find it a bit small, but that problem is easily solved with bunk cots. The PU coating rating makes Eureka Copper Canyon very good during rain, so you can relax knowing that you will stay dry inside. It would’ve been an amazing tent if it came with a vestibule, but a vestibule would probably raise the price.

All in all, if you and your friends need a large tent for a weekend out cycling in the mountains, then Eureka Copper Canyon is worth thinking about.

5. Toogh Camping Tent 2-3 Person Review

https://solidguides.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Toogh-Camping-Tent-2-3-Person-262x175.jpg
  • Extremely easy to pitch
  • Inexpensive
  • 3,000mm waterproof rating
  • Good ventilation
  • Interior pockets and a hook
  • Low weight
  • Tight fit for three persons
  • Minor condensation problems
  • Not suitable for all seasons
check price

Toogh Camping Tent is one of the toughest popup tents we’ve had the pleasure of reviewing. It is also one of the best waterproof tents for heavy downpours.

This 2-3 person tent is very light, spacious, and can resist ripping and tearing.

If you intend to camp in an area known for heavy rains, you might want to think about this cool-looking tent.

Design and Features

Toogh Camping is known for being simple to pitch up. If you have no experience in pitching tents, this one could be the best waterproof tent for you. It comes with eight steel pegs and four ropes, making it a neat tent for beginners. Tearing it down is a breeze, it is almost like closing an umbrella.

The most important feature is its 3,000mm waterproof rating. You can rest assured that you will wake up after a heavy rain without being drenched. The canopy is not the only waterproof part of Toogh Camping, so is the flooring. So, if you’re worried about surface water seeping inside, you don’t have to worry anymore.

Toogh Camping is supposed to be a backpacking tent, but the weight of 8.35 pounds might be a bit too much for some. Nevertheless, most seasoned backpackers won’t have a lot of problems carrying it around.

Heavy winds bring a lot of debris that could shred a tent, but not this one. The 210D Oxford material used in the creation of this tent makes it very durable. You won’t have to worry about flying branches ripping it apart. The stitching is strong enough to make it survive most of what nature can throw at you. The rainfly that comes with the Toogh Camping is reliable, durable, and will last you a long time.

While this tent can survive plenty, it is rated for 35mph winds. Stronger winds will make it bend on itself, so bear that in mind if you intend to camp in a windy area.

Three people can fit in, but it would be a tight fit for three fully-grown adults. If you intend to use this tent as a two-person tent, you will have no trouble feeling comfortable inside.

When it comes to ventilation, we must say that it is pretty good. This tent comes with two doors and two mesh windows. You will be happy to know that the mesh roof aids in releasing the hot air, so Toogh Camping is comfortable to sleep in during summer.

Toogh Camping comes with a hook for a lantern, and interior pockets that aid in storing small items. The mosquito net at the entrance is a nice touch, especially during hot days when you have to keep the doors open.

Things to Consider

While this tent is pretty durable, other models on the market offer more durability at a similar price.

The biggest user complaint we have noticed is related to leaking, but those complaints were sporadic and rare.

Plenty of people claim that Toogh Camping is a four-season model, which is far from the truth. The best time to use the Toogh Camping is during summer, the end of spring, and the start of fall. Don’t try using it during the winter, unless you enjoy freezing.

Finally, condensation seems to be a problem. Fortunately, not a lot of moisture forms, so it shouldn’t be considered a huge problem.

Summary

If you are looking for a waterproof tent that you can use during a music festival or a hike through a forest, this one might be what you need.

It is a durable tent with a 3,000mm waterproof rating. It is extremely easy to pitch, and it comes with plenty of openings for ventilation.

The Toogh Camping is a good choice for seasoned backpackers or for couples who want to enjoy a weekend in nature.

There are a few minor flaws that can be ignored due to the low price. If you want a waterproof tent that can feel comfortable for two people, then this one might be worth thinking about.

6. Wenzel Klondike Tent 8 Person Review

  • Heavy

Wenzel is a company with a tradition that started in 1887. It is a company that has been developing camping gear for a long time, and it shows.

If you want an excellent waterproof tent for friends and family, the Klondike might be what you are looking for.

It is a tent that allows eight people to sleep comfortably, but it can also be used as a luxurious tent for couples who want a great outdoor experience.

Design and Features

If you are planning a trip into a forest or mountains with your family, you will need a large tent. Wenzel Klondike is a large cabin-style model, which means that the walls are high, straight, and steep.

The first thing you will notice is that Wenzel Klondike has two separate rooms. One of the rooms is the main room, and the other one is a screened room. Both of the rooms can be used for sleeping since both of them have a ceiling and a floor. The rooms are separated with a door, not with a curtain.

You will need to pitch this tent and use stakes to hold it in one place, it is not a freestanding model. We are fond of the fact that the main room is a dome room because it makes it less likely to collapse under the wind. But, you should be careful not to use the Klondike tent in windy areas, since it isn’t very stable.

This is a three-season tent, but we recommend you use it during the summer as it doesn’t perform well in harsh conditions.

Wenzel Klondike weighs 27.3 pounds, so it isn’t easy to carry around. The main room’s peak height is 78 inches, which is enough for most people. You will find two windows, one on each side of it. Klondike is very spacious, measuring around 16 by 11 feet. Five persons can sleep in the main room, and three more can sleep in the screen room.

The screen room hosts a zipper panel used as an entrance, and its mesh roof is covered with a rainfly. You can use the screen room for sleeping or as storage, depending on the number of people using the tent.

It is nice to notice that a lot of thought has been put into ventilation. The air circulation is great, and the mesh roofs and windows keep pesky insects away. The windows are protected with flaps to prevent water from entering. The rear of the main room hosts a ventilation flap that improves air circulation while remaining protected from water.

Each part of the Wenzel Klondike is made of weather-resistant polyester fabric. The fabric is coated with polyurethane, which improves the water-resistant properties of the fabric. The floor is properly sealed to prevent water from leaking in. Finally, each zipper, webbing, and thread is water-repellent, which is a nice touch.

You receive six metal poles used for vertical support and three fiberglass poles. Shock cords are used to ensure that you don’t lose any pieces. As always, be careful with fiberglass since it is less rugged than metal.

Finally, one person can pitch this tent in around 20 minutes. If you have pitched a tent before, you won’t have too much trouble with Wenzel Klondike.

Things to Consider

The first thing that might annoy you is the fact that the floor isn’t a bathtub floor. The second annoyance is related to this tent not being a freestanding model. Yes, it might be a bit more reliable in harsh weather conditions, but we would like it more if it were a freestanding tent.

Some of you might not like that you don’t get two doors. You might want to leave the main room, but you will have to pass through the screened room, which might bother people sleeping in it.

Another noticeable snag is that the screened room is not as high as the main room, which is a problem for tall people.

Finally, some users claim that the included rainfly isn’t good enough to withstand heavy rain, so make sure to bring your tarp for extra protection.

Summary

Wenzel Klondike is an excellent choice for families and groups of friends who want to enjoy time out in nature.

It is a neat-looking tent that can house up to eight people. Both of the rooms are comfortable and have a well-designed ventilation system. The mesh roof is awesome for enjoying the starry sky during the night, but it also provides enough privacy.

There are a few minor annoyances that can easily be overlooked once you spend a night inside of it.

All in all, if you want a great waterproof tent that is easy to pitch and provides plenty of room, then consider the Wenzel Klondike.

  • Low-quality zippers

Campla Camping is a great-looking tent that can house two persons comfortably or three persons who don’t mind being close to each other.

This is the best waterproof model for backpackers who need a lightweight, easy-to-pitch tent that can survive harsh winds.

If you need a well-ventilated three-season tent that doesn’t cost a lot, then this one is worth considering.

Design and Features

The first thing you will notice is that assembling this tent is easy, it won’t take you more than five minutes. Campla Camping comes with eight thick aluminum stakes that are bound to keep the tent in one place. It can withstand strong winds, with some users reporting it surviving 40mph winds.

The two-door design is amazing, and the numerous windows let in plenty of air and sunlight. The ventilation system is amazing, making it feel fresh whenever you are inside. This is a great tent if you want to enjoy a picturesque environment while relaxing inside of it. Even if you need to close the doors, you will be able to enjoy the outdoors due to the half-mesh construction and prop-up triangle windows.

You receive two aviation-grade aluminum poles that help the tent retain its shape and sturdiness. They are supported by shock-cord, which is a feature that provides you with much-needed durability. This is definitely a three-season tent since it can survive plenty of punishment without losing its form. The manufacturer claims that it is a four-season model, but we will let you test that claim.

From the outside, it doesn’t look like a large tent, but it is a perfect size for two adults and their camping gear. Three persons could squeeze in, but comfort is not guaranteed, especially if one person is large.

We love the included detachable and waterproof LED light strip that makes your camping trip safe and convenient. You will notice a USB port that can be powered with a powerbank, which in turn powers the LED light strip.

Campla Camping is made of durable anti-wear polyester that is waterproof and windproof. You don’t have to worry about your valuables getting wet in this tent. Inner and outer zippers ensure that you can easily enter and exit the tent.

One of the best features is easy-to-store rainfly. It provides the tent with protection from rain, but it doesn’t cause condensation. The rainfly has mesh vents that allow for proper airflow even during the rain. The rainfly also houses small interior pockets that are useful if you want to store small items.

Things to Consider

The biggest problem with Campla Camping is the shoddy quality of the zipper. Plenty of users have complained about the zipper breaking upon first use.

The fact that LED strip needs charging forces you to bring a powerbank, which might annoy you if you are a light packer.

Finally, if you are over 6ft tall, you will have trouble sleeping in Campla Camping. You are forced to sleep diagonally, which makes Campla Camping a one-person tent.

Summary

If you need a backpacking tent that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, the Campla Camping might be a good choice. It is easy to set up, and it can survive plenty of weather abuse.

It offers plenty of air circulation and natural light, but it isn’t the best choice for tall people. The LED light strip is a nice touch, but bear in mind that you will have to charge it.

All in all, if you need a portable tent for two to three persons, and you want to enjoy the surroundings from the inside, you should consider this one.

8. Coleman Evanston Tent 6-8 Person Review

  • Good weatherproofing features
  • Tight fit for eight people
  • Poor quality fabric
  • Not for tall people

If you’re looking for a great waterproof tent for your family, then the Coleman Evanston might be a perfect choice.

This gorgeous-looking tent offers plenty of privacy and comes in a green and white color scheme.

If you enjoy activities like hiking, camping, backpacking, and hunting, then you and your friends and family could love spending time in this tent.

Design and Features

We are huge fans of privacy, and privacy is exactly what this tent offers. It is a fully-screened model equipped with privacy vent windows. You shouldn’t worry about curious onlookers noticing anything inside of Coleman Evanston.

More important feature than privacy is weatherproofing. Luckily, Coleman Evanston comes with an awesome WeatherTec System that ensures you remain safe and dry inside. The welded floors make sure that no water gets inside, even during the pouring rain. The inverted seams also ensure that water stays where it belongs, outside. If you require extra protection, you can use the included rainfly that’s held with stakes. Coleman Evanston is definitely the best waterproof tent for large groups of people.

The guy-out triangles are designed to offer good protection from strong winds. The inverted seams make sure that the needle holes are hidden inside the tent. Both of the mentioned features increase the weather resistance and make Coleman Evanston sturdier than other large tents.

The zipper cuff is made of leak-free fabric, and it comes with Velcro attachments that further the protection from the rain. The windows have extended awnings that allow you to keep them open during heavy rain. So, if you need fresh air during a heavy downpour, you can open the windows without the insides getting wet.

Coleman Evanston weighs only 25 pounds, and it can easily be folded. It comes with a deluxe carry bag that makes carrying easy on any type of vehicle. All of the components of this tent fit together easily, so you won’t have any problems pitching it. Even if you are a beginner, you will easily put up Coleman Evanston thanks to intuitive instructions.

You get plenty of space inside Coleman Evanston, but eight fully-grown persons won’t be able to sleep comfortably. On the other hand, four to six people will have plenty of room and comfort in Coleman Evanston. The fully-screened porch is a great place to hold your belongings if nobody is sleeping there. It is also a neat place to sleep if you enjoy looking at the starry sky.

Two large mesh windows make sure that the entire tent is well-ventilated, but they also stop pesky insects from entering. You also receive storage pockets on the side of the tent’s walls.

Things to Consider

The biggest problem is that the included rainfly doesn’t protect the porch from moisture during the rain. The floor might get wet and pool up water.

The guylines might be a problem since they go a bit too far away from the tent. So, be careful not to trip over them when you go out for a walk early in the morning.

Plenty of users made complaints related to the poor quality of the fabric. Some of them have noticed fabric ripping in multiple places, so bear that in mind.

The height of Coleman Evanston is problematic for tall people as they can stand upright in the center only. Finally, the claim that this is an eight-person tent is a stretch. You could fit eight average-sized persons inside, but they would not have a good time.

Summary

If you want a decent waterproof tent that doesn’t cost a lot, then Coleman Evanston could be a good choice.

This is not a heavy tent, and it has plenty of useful features that will help you remain dry inside. Yes, there are a couple of snags, but considering that this is a cheap tent, minor problems are to be expected.

All in all, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money, and you want to have a fun time in a forest or on a beach with a couple of friends, you should consider Coleman Evanston.

Would you like to attend a music festival and have a tent that will protect you from heavy wind and rain? What about spending time in a forest and not worrying about whether the weather will ruin your trip?  Fortunately, Coleman Sundome can accommodate up to four people while giving an affirmative answer to the above questions.

If you need an awesome waterproof tent, and you don’t want to spend a lot of money, then Coleman Sundome could be what you are looking for.

Design and Features

You will have no problems assembling Coleman Sundome. Even if you have never pitched a tent, you will feel like a pro while pitching this one. Make sure that you bring a tarp because you don’t receive a footprint with this tent. The base of it is strong enough to survive plenty, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

The 4’11” center height is pretty good for most people. No, you won’t be able to stand upright, but that shouldn’t bother you. Coleman Sundome is a 9 x 7 feet tent, which is more than enough for a couple, but not good enough for four people. You can put a queen-sized air mattress inside, but make sure to inflate it inside. Otherwise, you won’t be able to fit the mattress through the door.

You receive a carry bag with Coleman Sundome, and it is large enough to hold everything included with it. You will have no trouble putting the tent back inside once you are finished using it.

This tent is made of polyester fabric that makes sure that you and your belongings remain dry inside. Moreover, Coleman’s Weather-Tec system further improves the waterproof feature of this tent. The floor is made of 1,000D polyethylene that makes sure you won’t wake up in a puddle of water.

The dome shape of Coleman Sundome is excellent because it provides plenty of wind resistance, but bear in mind that strong winds cause problems with dome tents. The Variflo airing system is adjustable and keeps the air flowing. You can close the windows if you require privacy, but you won’t be sacrificing a lot of the airflow.

When it comes to the rainfly, we must say that we are impressed. It is strong and adds a waterproof layer that also acts as a shade during sunny days. The ends of the rainfly go over the front and the rear of the tent, which is rare to see on some more expensive tents.

The zippers are neatly designed to run smoothly. They aren’t affected by water and they don’t get stuck easily. You will notice a small zippered panel in the front corner of the tent. That panel allows you to run an extension cord into a tent, which is an awesome feature. You also receive a small ring at the center of the ceiling, on which you can hang a small light. Finally, it is nice to see two small pockets for small items.

Things to Consider

The first problem is that four people probably won’t fit inside the Coleman Sundome. If one of the four people is physically large, nobody will have any comfort inside. Basically, this is a tent for two to three people.

While this tent is durable, torrential rain and heavy wind will cause damage, and maybe even leakage.

A minor complaint relates to the door screen window. Only the top half of the door has the screen window.

While the rainfly extends over the front and the rear of the tent, it doesn’t extend over the sides, which might be a problem during the rain.

Summary

If you need a no-nonsense tent that won’t set you back a lot, you should consider the Coleman Sundome.

It is an excellent choice for couples who want to enjoy music festivals or a weekend in a forest. It comes with plenty of features that ensure you remain dry. You shouldn’t use this tent during all seasons. Instead, use it when there isn’t a lot of heavy wind.

The rainfly could have been larger, and it would be nice to see a footprint included, but it’s not a huge problem.

All in all, if you want an excellent waterproof tent for camping at a beach with a loved one, give Coleman Sundome a try.

Waterproof Tent Buyer’s Guide

The worst thing you could do when buying a waterproof tent is to make a purchase blindly, without knowing what to look for.

There are a few factors that you need to consider if you want to be satisfied with your purchase. We will guide you on your way to purchasing the best waterproof tent.

Types of Tents

You will notice that many types of tents come in various shapes and sizes. Consider the shape that suits you the most, and you will be on your way to buying the best waterproof tent.

  • Frame/ridge: These tents have a pole at each end to hold up the walls. The roof is held up by a cross or a ridge pole. This type of tent resembles a house and is pretty stable. If you are looking for a family waterproof tent, then this shape might be what you need.
  • Dome: You will notice that these tents are very popular among forest hikers. The poles cross to give the tent stability, and these tents are quite easy to pitch thanks to their freestanding features. If you need a tent for a weekend, and you don’t want a large one, consider a dome model.
  • Geodesic: These tents utilize crossed poles that give it stability. Geodesic tents are stable, and thus a good choice in windy areas. If you are a backpacker looking for a tent for a hike through the mountains, consider this type.
  • Pop-up: Whenever there is a music festival, you will see these tents popping up everywhere, which isn’t how they got their name. Pop-up tents have a coiled frame built into the fabric, which makes them require no assembly. If you want a tent which you can pitch in an instant, this is a perfect choice.
  • Tunnel: The shape of these tents resembles a tunnel thanks to the arched poles. These tents look like larger dome tents, but they are not freestanding. If you need a tent for a family trip, but you don’t want to sacrifice internal space, consider a tunnel tent.
  • Bell: These tents have a conical shape, and you probably know them as teepee tents. Think of Native American tents, and you will understand how bell tents look like and function. Different sizes can accommodate two to ten people, maybe even more. If you want a tent with a traditional design, then a bell-shaped one is perfect for you.

Useful Tent Lingo

Before you can purchase a waterproof tent that will last you a long time, you need to be aware of the tent jargon. Remember the following words, and you will have a greater knowledge of tents, which will help you find the best waterproof tent.

  • Berth: This word represents the number of people that can sleep in a tent. Be aware that it represents the number of people without luggage.
  • Inner: This is the part of the tent in which you will be sleeping. Its purpose is to give you privacy and promote airflow.
  • Rainfly: This is the outer part of the tent that gives you protection from weather elements. Rainfly should be waterproof and thick enough to survive strong winds without tearing.
  • Groundsheet: This is the floor. Its purpose is to protect from moisture and dirt. Some groundsheets are sewn into the tent, while the others come separately.
  • Poles: Tent poles are usually made of steel or fiberglass. Fiberglass ones are extremely common, but they are prone to breakage. Fortunately, fiberglass poles are easy to repair. Steel poles are strong, but their weight is a problem; repairing them can be a tricky task.
  • Guylines: Guylines are cords or strings used to secure a tent to the ground. They provide structure to integral parts of a tent. They also distribute stress from the poles and are a necessity in windy areas.
  • Porch: A porch is used to store your backpacks, gear, and other items. You can use a porch to store your wet clothes, but you can also use larger ones as a dining space.
  • Ventilation: Best waterproof tents feature ventilation points that increase airflow. The purpose of increased airflow is to reduce condensation buildup. Another purpose is to allow for hot air to leave the tent during the hot summer months.
  • Footprint: A footprint is a sheet that is placed underneath the tent to protect it from moisture, mud, and abrasion. Plenty of waterproof tents come with a footprint, but some are sold separately.

Important Features of the Best Waterproof Tent

Finally, before you can make a purchase that will satisfy your needs, you need to be aware of some important features.

  • Size/type: Our advice is to always go for a larger model than what the manufacturer recommends. If you need a tent for five people, it is better to go for an eight-person tent than a five-person one. Likewise, if you are a couple looking for a weekend of relaxation in nature, it is better to go for a four-person tent than a two-person tent.
  • Ventilation: Best waterproof tents offer awesome ventilation systems. After all, a ventilation system combat condensation by allowing the tent to breathe. Find a tent with dedicated ventilation systems that don’t let the water in.
  • Fabric materials: The best materials you can choose are polyester and nylon. There are some PVC-coated tents, but we advise you against those. Try to find a polyester tent that is coated with polyurethane. Polyurethane provides the material with water resistance and durability.
  • Seasons: Some waterproof tents are good for only one season, usually summer. But, some models can withstand spring, fall, and sometimes even winter. Think about when you will be using your new tent, and plan your shopping accordingly.
  • Rainfly: Rainfly is an important part of a tent that newbies often overlook. In our opinion, a tent isn’t truly waterproof unless it comes with a high-quality rainfly. If you must buy a tent that comes without a rainfly, be sure to buy a rainfly separately.
  • Portability: Think about what kind of a trip you will be taking. It makes no sense to buy a heavy model that is hard to carry if you are going on a hiking trip. The same goes for bicycles. Try to keep the weight of the tent to a minimum, and make sure that it isn’t unnecessarily bulky.
  • Mesh nets: Waking up in a tent filled with mosquitoes is a horrible feeling. You should always look for a model that comes with mesh nets over windows and doors. The mesh will allow for the air to flow, and it will keep insects outside of your tent.
  • Floor: The floor of the tent is in direct contact with the ground, so it is important to find a tent with a high-quality floor. Most tent floors are made of polyester or nylon, but some are PVC. We recommend you to find a bathtub floor. Bathtub floors turn up at the edges, so the water on the ground won’t spill over the edges.
  • Zippers: Some manufacturers skimp on zippers, and we made sure to mention those. So, look for a tent that comes from a manufacturer that takes great care in creating high-quality zippers that won’t let any water in.
  • Extra features: There are a couple of extra features that aren’t necessary, but they will improve your time spent inside a tent. You can expect the best waterproof tents to come with extra storage compartments, vestibules, footprints, electric cable ports, lantern hooks, and more.

Get to Know Your Tent

We highly recommend you to test your new tent before you take it on a trip. If you have a backyard, use it to pitch your tent. Learn how long it takes you to set it up. Notice if you’ve had any problems and try to solve them.

You should also check whether the seams are sealed. If you notice any problems with sealing, apply a seam sealer that will prevent water from pouring inside.

Learn how to use guylines in the dark. You should also learn how to properly use stakes. Remember to always bring a couple of extra stakes on a trip.

After you have pitched your new waterproof tent a few times, you will feel more secure about doing it in the wilderness. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes and trying out different knotting techniques. Find out what works best for you, and you will be less likely to have any problems when you aren’t close to the home.

We hope that you will enjoy your new waterproof tent and that you will make plenty of precious new memories alone, with friends, or with your family.
