Don’t Have Time to Read the Whole Article?
We had a lot to consider, but the best overall had to go to Philips Norelco’s MG3750. This versatile and affordable trimmer does it all. You can trim your beard, ears, and nose – all from the same unit.
If you’re looking for a model that will trim your beard and cut your hair, you must give Wahl’s T-Styler Pro a try. This all-in-one trimmer has plenty of attachments so you’re guaranteed to get just the trim you’re looking for.
Now that you’ve seen a couple of our favorite picks, let’s move on to the main section of our reviews. We’ll go into more detail so you know just the right trimmer to pick.
Philips Norelco gives you so much to work with in such a compact trimmer. The MG3750 can handle all kinds of beards thanks to its many attachments and precision-cutting prowess. What we like most about this model is that there’s no need for messy oils.
The blades and guards all detach easily for cleaning. Just pop them off and rinse under running water. Even better, the blades are self-sharpening. So you never have to worry about painful pulled hairs. This is especially useful when using the hair trimmer to tighten up your ‘do.
No matter how big your beard is, there’s an attachment just for you. Want to bust it down to a more manageable size? No problem there. Been wanting to add some shape to it? You got it. How about cutting off the whole thing and starting over? Not only will the trimmer do that, but it will do it without leaving any razor burn.
After you’ve tended to your beard, you can’t forget about your unsightly ear and nose hair. Just pop on the included nose and ear trimmer to return your looks to their very best. Each attachment works just the way it was designed to; this impressed us. A big part of that goes to the self-sharpening feature.
Now, Philips Norelco says your blades will stay just as sharp, even after two years of use. Obviously, we couldn’t put that to the test. But after a month of use, we can say with certainty that the steel blades have not dulled. Trimming our hair and beards felt just as accurate as day one.
We can’t end our review without talking about the price. It is insanely reasonable. How Philips Norelco was able to deliver such a well-crafted and polished trimmer for the cost of a haircut is astonishing.
Not only are you getting a reliable beard buster that performs exceptionally well, you’re getting it at an affordable price.
One of the great things about the MG3750 – and there are many – is that its attachments are a cinch to use. Each one pops right on and stays put. The size is small, making it easy to get at every angle of your face.
And it’s extremely lightweight. This thing weighs less than 10 ounces. If you’re doing a lot of trimming, your hand won’t get worn out in the process. The MG3750 is compact yet robust. What more could you want from a beard trimmer?
If precision is what you’re after, Wahl delivers the goods. The T-Styler is an incredible value that provides you with everything you need to stay well-groomed. You can cut, trim, and shave – all from the comfort of your home.
Where this trimmer really shines is edging. If you like a lot of shape and style in your beard, you’ll be blown away by how precise the T-Styler trims. It’s a little more than two bits, but you can get a shave and a haircut at a very affordable price.
We were quite pleased with how close a shave this unit provides. But the best part is that it leaves no razor bumps or burns. Having all this in a single trimmer is both impressive and convenient; a true all-in-wonder.
The construction of the trimmer is compact and durable. We found it to be comfortable to use without any strain or stress. The cord did get in the way a few times, however.
This unit doesn’t have a cord-free option, so you’ll have to be plugged into an outlet to use it. This is understandable, though, as the T-Styler is pretty powerful. This lends to its accurate and even trimming.
You get a total of 12 attachments ranging from 1/16th of an inch to 1 inch. Scissors and brushes are included, too. This lets you get a greater variety of haircuts without going to a barber. The carbon blades are not only tough, but they are sharp, as well.
You will need to regularly oil them to keep them in check. But Wahl throws in a small bottle of electric clipper oil to get you started. And you can easily remove the blades for more detailed cleaning.
We’d rather not have to deal with oil, but it’s a small necessity in this case. The T-Styler works so well and comes at such a great price, we really can’t complain.
Swapping out attachments is easy, as is using the trimmer. You’ll definitely want to make sure you keep this one well-oiled, elsewise you risk snagging. And let us tell you now, it will snag a lot if you don’t.
Aside from this one caveat, the T-Styler is a precise and accurate trimmer. It can quickly transform even the wildest of beards into pure classiness. Always being tethered to an outlet is a bit of a bummer, but it’s certainly not a deal-breaker
Xtava delivers a lightweight and robust trimmer that features excellent beard-busting abilities. We love the power and portability that this unit provides. Not only that, the price is more than acceptable.
We like the user-friendly design here. Xtava’s trimmer features an LED display that lets you know when it’s time to oil or charge up. There’s even a handy battery percentage shown, so you always know how much life is left.
The battery itself provides up to 4.5 hours of use on a single charge. The downside here is that a full recharge takes 3 hours to complete. But the good news is that you get more than enough time to give yourself a complete hair makeover.
You aren’t limited to beard trimming here. The attachments included let you buzz up your hair just as easily as your beard. There are only two included with the trimmer, but they are double-ended, giving you four different sizes to choose from.
Like some of our other entries, you’ll need to keep this one oiled. Xtava gives you a small bottle and a cleaning brush to help with proper maintenance.
Cutting and trimming is relatively easy, although the size of the trimmer makes it a bit cumbersome. This is especially true when trying to trim up your beard. It’s just a bit on the bulky side, leaving certain angles hard to get to.
The lightweight body makes up for this a bit, though, with the trimmer weighing in at a feathery 7.7 ounces.
With such a lightweight body, your hands won’t tire out. And with over 4 hours of battery life, you’ll have plenty of cutting time. The LED display helps to ensure that your trimmer stays properly oiled and charged.
Andis is known for its professional-grade equipment. The T-Outliner is a solid addition to Andis’ lineup. It does have some issues that keep it from reaching greatness. But if you’re looking for even, snag-free trimming from home, the T-Outliner will do nicely.
You get a really close shave with this unit, and best of all, it won’t pull on your hair. Its main strength is its ability to trim and cut straight lines. If you like your beard or goatee to be thin and tight, the T-Outliner is for you.
You can even dry-shave your face without fear of irritating razor burn. The carbon-steel blades can be manually adjusted to where there’s no gap at all. This allows you to get the closest shave possible.
The lines this trimmer can cut are laser-perfect. And at around 11 ounces, it’s really easy to maneuver. That being said, there are a few issues we hope to see remedied next time around.
For one, this unit gets way too hot too soon. It quickly becomes a race to see how fast you can trim or shave before burning your face. It’s that hot. If you’re just shaping up your beard it’s not an issue. But most people are going to buy this for its close edging and shaving capabilities.
Another problem is that it comes with absolutely no attachments. You’re going to have to come up with your own way to guard and cut at different lengths.
And lastly, it’s corded. There’s no way to use the T-Outliner without being plugged into an outlet at all times. Considering how powerful this trimmer is, though, it’s understandable why Andis went this route.
If these problems are addressed in the next revision, if there is one, you can bet the T-Outliner will rate much higher. The cutting prowess this trimmer delivers is second-to-none. We’re looking forward to seeing where Andis goes from here.
The shape and weight of the T-Outliner make it easy to control and operate. The cord can sometimes get in the way, but its sheer power somewhat makes up for it.
If you travel often, you should most definitely pick up Braun’s all-in-one beard trimmer. This highly-portable unit does a fine job at keeping your beard in check while you’re away from home.
Compared to other entries, it’s a bit short on power. You probably don’t want to rely on the MGK3060 as your main source of trimming. But as a means of touching up for a few days, it makes a great companion.
We like that this little guy lasts a solid hour on a single charge. What we don’t like, however, is its recharge time. To get that one hour of use, you’ll have to charge the trimmer up for 8 hours! That’s almost preposterous. Then again, we can’t imagine anyone doing touch-ups for an hour. Vanity is your enemy if that’s the case.
It is nice seeing ear and nose attachments. You get a total of 6 different ends to work with. Each one is just as handy as the other, depending on the length of your beard. And in case you need to look your best for a business meeting, you get a Gillette ProGlide razor thrown in for good measure.
This handy trimmer makes a great travel buddy. It’s lightweight, compact, and its operation is straightforward. Sure, it’s not the most powerful trimmer out there. But then again, it’s not really supposed to be.
For a quick trim to keep your beard looking nice, the MGK3060 is all you need. Throw it in your suitcase, charge it up at the hotel, and give yourself a quick buzz in the morning.
If you’re on a budget and in need of some serious beard control, it’s time you gave the Gillette Styler a look. This unit is capable of trimming and a whole lot more. Best of all, it’ll barely put a ding in your wallet.
This versatile trimmer comes with 4 attachments, with each one trimming your beard to different lengths. Three of the attachments are used to shape your beard to the perfect size and shape. The other is actually a 5-blade razor, giving you a super-close and smooth shave. And, you can use any Gillette Fusion5 cartridge when it comes time to replace the blades.
This model is really good for lining up your beard, as well. If you like even, symmetrical shaping, the Gillette Styler is more than capable of getting the job done.
This trimmer runs on a single AA battery. You get one with the unit to get you started. This, too, makes a great travel trimmer in a pinch. We like that it’s waterproof, so you can use it in the shower without fear of damage.
There is a cheaper trimmer on our list (see #7: Wahl Micro Groomsman), but it doesn’t offer anywhere near the trimming options as Gillette’s Styler. It’s strictly for detailed trimming. For the price of the Styler and its versatility, you won’t find a better budget trimmer.
At just a little over 3 ounces, Gillette’s Styler is a breeze to use. It’s so compact that you’ll have no troubles getting difficult areas and angles. And since it uses AA batteries, you’ll never have to worry about waiting for it to charge up.
It’s certainly not the most powerful of trimmers. But if you’ve never owned a beard trimmer, the Styler is a great unit to get your feet wet.
Do you have a tight beard or goatee? If so, you know all too well how difficult it can be to get intricate cuts and trims right where you want them. You need a small and accurate trimmer that is capable of getting precise angles.
Enter: the Wahl Micro Groomsman. About the size of a Sharpie marker, this compact personal trimmer is easy to hold and does a bang-up job of trimming anywhere you need. Its small size lends to its ease of use, making this one of the most versatile entries we ranked.
It’s perfect for getting the fine details throughout your beard so there are no misshapen areas. We like that you can use it on your neckline and eyebrows, too. A few minutes with the Micro Groomsman and you’ll be looking clean and classy.
After you’ve trimmed up, you wouldn’t be complete without eliminating that pesky ear and nose hair. Just snap on the proper attachment for fuzz-busting precision. Wahl gives you two pieces to work with, but each one handles more than one job.
And we must say, they both work really well. We were very pleased with the results. No longer do you have to worry about your facial hair getting out of whack. You’ll be able to keep it in line thanks to the detailing power of the Micro Groomsman.
This little guy makes a great travel accessory, too. It runs on a single AAA battery, so there’s no need for recharging. You can get it wet without fear of water damage, and it’s small enough to carry in your pocket.
This compact little trimmer is a clever invention that’s sure to benefit your beard. A single button controls its use. The heads are easily swappable and the battery makes it a cinch to manage. And to clean the Micro Groomsman, simply rinse the heads under running water.
You’re going to pay a bit more for Bevel’s Beard Trimmer. But its battery life alone makes it worth the price of admission. A single charge will give you 8 hours of continuous usage. Not only that, it has a standby time of 6 months!
The other great benefit of the Bevel is its cool operation. You don’t have to worry about the blades getting too hot to use. Now you can enjoy extended use in comfort. You can trim with it plugged in or in cordless mode.
It’s also very comfortable to use thanks to its soft-grip design. Maintenance is equally simple, as well. The blades detach easily for quick and detailed cleaning. No tools are needed, either, making it very user-friendly.
The precision the Bevel trims with is impressive, to say the least. But we would have liked to see some attachments come with it. As expensive as it is, we can’t understand why there aren’t any.
Bevel makes this trimmer a very user-friendly experience. It’s a breeze to clean and easy to operate. Its cordless mode lasts for 8 solid hours without missing a beat. It has great balance and is a joy to hold. Best of all, it doesn’t get hot.
If you’ve got a big beard that’s hard to keep in line, Panasonic has your fix. The ER-SB40-K is designed to comb up difficult and unruly hair so your beard stays evenly trimmed. We like the adjustable dial that controls the length of the cut.
It’s so easy to operate and works like a charm. It gives you a total of 19 heights to choose from so you get the perfect trim every time. You can use this trimmer in either corded or cordless mode for versatile trimming.
You get a solid hour of performance on a single charge. The blades are razor-sharp and do an excellent job of cutting hair without snagging. The ER-SB40-K sports a rubberized grip for added comfort.
The quick-adjust dial makes all the difference in delivering a user-friendly experience. This is a well-crafted and versatile beard trimmer. You’ll find that it’s a breeze to control and it trims even better.
Are you new to beard trimmers and looking for an easy and straightforward unit to try your hand at? Andis has just what you’re looking for with the Styliner.
This affordable entry won’t break the bank and is a cinch to operate. A single button controls the action to deliver a quality trim every time.
You can adjust the Styliner to 7 different positions so you get just the trim you need. Edging and detailing is just as easy, too. A beard-lifting brush is included to ensure you don’t miss any wild hairs.
We liked the fact that you can trim and shave away without getting razor bumps. There were a few occasional snags from time to time. But if you keep the Styliner well-oiled, it’s kept to a minimum.
This model runs on two AAA batteries for total portability and versatility. You will need to provide your own, as none are included. If you’re buying this as a gift, be sure to grab a pack of AAAs.
One button controls the Styliner. If you’re looking to avoid a lot of bells and whistles, this is the trimmer for you. It’s lightweight and easy to handle, too. We like that it runs on a couple of AAA batteries. You won’t have to worry about waiting for the trimmer to recharge, which is a big plus if you’re in a rush.
It’s certainly not the most powerful beard trimmer on the market. But if you’re wanting to see how your beard looks trimmed up and you don’t want to spend a fortune, this is for you.
Buying a beard trimmer can be an intimidating task. There are many different brands out there, their prices vary, and their features can be confusing.
We want to show you that the process of choosing the best beard trimmer doesn’t have to be complicated. We have gathered loads of info that is bound to help you make the correct choice.
You don’t have to waste your time reading dozens of websites, we have done that part of the job for you. In a few minutes, you will have enough information to make an educated purchase.
You need to make a decision between a corded or a cordless beard trimmer before you can think about other factors.
Corded beard trimmers are well-known for being powerful. Their power allows you to trim your beard without pulling on the hairs.
The best feature of a corded beard trimmer is that it doesn’t require batteries. You simply plug in the cord, and you are good to go. The problem is that you can’t take your corded trimmer into the shower. So, if you plan on doing some manscaping in the shower, then a corded beard trimmer is not a good idea.
Another problem is the cleaning process. Since you can’t wash it in a sink, you will spend more time cleaning your trimmer with a brush.
Cordless beard trimmers provide you with a lot of freedom and flexibility. You don’t need to stand next to a wall while shaving. But, you need a charged battery.
One of the problems with cordless trimmers is the battery. If it is not charged, you won’t be able to do anything. Luckily, some models come with a quick charge function that will give you some time for a quick trim.
The best thing about cordless trimmers is that most of them are waterproof. Want to shave your face under a shower? No problem, just make sure that you get a waterproof trimmer.
Since cordless trimmers are waterproof, you can clean them in under a minute. To put it short, cordless beard trimmers are more convenient than corded ones. If you travel often, try to find a trimmer that can operate on dual voltages.
After you have decided between a corded and a cordless beard trimmer, there are a couple of other things that you need to consider.
Everyone changes, and so does their style. There will come a time when you might want to shorten your beard or to grow your stubble. But, you won’t be able to do it if your beard trimmer comes with only one length setting.
Interchangeable guard combs and adjustable zoom wheels exist to give you the power to choose the length of the shave.
Adjustable zoom wheel lets you control the length of the shave with a flick of a finger. You only get one guard comb, but you can freely move it the way it suits you. Good models will give you many different settings, but make sure that the guard comb doesn’t bend too much.
Interchangeable guard combs, as the name implies, are guard combs of different lengths that you have to switch if you want to adjust the length of the shave. They function in a way that pulls all of the beard hairs, which allows for an even cut. Trimmers with interchangeable guard combs are less flexible than the ones with an adjustable wheel. But, they give you a higher quality shave.
There are times when you won’t have enough time for a long beard trimming session. On the other hand, there are times where you can enjoy grooming your beard for as long as you want.
Adjustable speeds are useful because we never know when we might need them. It is a practical feature to have if you are often on the move.
If you’ve chosen a cordless beard trimmer, then it is good to know that batteries don’t last for a long time. Most of the models can run for up to one hour without interruptions, but there are some that give up after only half an hour. To avoid the problem of not being able to trim your beard due to an empty battery, try to find a model with a battery charge indicator.
Most of the cordless trimmers with a battery charge indicator have LED lights that glow green when the trimmer is full, or red when it is empty.
There are a couple of different types of blades in cordless trimmers, but not all of them are created equal.
Our advice is to stay away from carbon steel if you can. The other choices are up to your preferences. But, if you are clumsy, then we advise you to stay away from ceramic blades.
Avoid cheap plastic! We can’t stress this enough. Models made out of cheap plastic won’t last you a long time, and they will end up costing more than they are worth.
While durability depends on your maintenance, buying a product made out of high-quality material lengthens its life. Metal trimmers are the best option, but they tend to be more expensive. Some models are made out of hard plastic, which can survive bumps and drops. In the end, a product will last you long if you take good care of it. So, remember to maintain your beard trimmer, and it might last you more than you hoped for.
Some beard trimmers come with useful accessories that save you money by providing you with features of other gadgets.
You will notice that some trimmers have attachments that allow you to trim your nose and/or ear hairs. Other models come with blades that allow you to contour your beard into intricate shapes.
If you hate having to clean up after shaving, then you will be glad to know that some trimmers have vacuum systems. There are even some beard trimmers that have self-sharpening blades.
All in all, extra accessories are not a necessity most of the time. But, if you require a special accessory, make sure that you get it with your new beard trimmer.
